Backing up
Everyone knows backing up your data is important, but it doesn't always get done. There are many excuses as to why we don't backup but one thing is clear, it's just a matter of time before the unthinkable happens to you.
So, what can you do to prepare yourself. The first thing you should do is decide what you want to backup. Then figure out a method for backing up that data. I like the 3-2-1 philosophy. Make 3 copies of your data, 2 copies on-site but on different mediums, and 1 copy offsite. Mac computers offer their Time Machine software which will automatically backup your data. Its very convenient and efficient. Many external hard drives will offer software that will essentially do the same thing if use a PC.
There are many mediums out there to choose from for backing up your data. There are many good external hard drives with varying amounts of storage capacity. Choose the amount of storage that works for you. Also remember there is cloud based storage. A good website to checkout the many cloud based storage sites is http://www.cloudwards.net/comparison/.
Remember it's not a matter of if your hard drive fails, it's when.
