Quick Fixes

What to do when emailing the Technology Department for technical assistance.
Just a bit of helpful information that will help us when receiving emails.  There are 360 teachers in the district, which unfortunately makes it almost impossible for us to remember where you are and what you teach.  So please when you send an email for assistance, let us know the following.
Personal information
Your name
School where you teach
Grade and/or grades that you teach if relevant

Computer Information
Mac or PC.  Laptop or desktop
Student classroom computer or teacher computer

Printer Information
Make and model of the printer
IP Address if the printer is networked

Adding Students to i-Ready
List which school they currently attend.
If known, any other schools attended.

Please include any other information that you feel could be helpful to us. You can’t tell us too much.

 Internet Safety

In the 2014 Internet Crimes report on cyber crimes, the FBI stated that      269,422 complaints had been filed during that year. Unfortunately only about 15% of Internet victims actually file a complaint. So cyber crimes are a real threat to you. Just to give you another example in 2014 the state of Utah lost $6,172,314 to cyber criminals.

So what can you do to protect yourself from these criminals? Here are some helpful tips. Make sure that you have a good strong password. Usually a phrase is better than a single word. Use a combination of letters, upper and lower case, numbers, and symbols. Avoid using personal information in the password that can be guessed or easily figured out by someone. Use Antivirus, Anti-malware, and Anti-spyware software. Keep your computers up to date. Be careful what you download. When not in use, turn your computer off.
What is the district doing to make sure that you are safe on the district’s network? First, we are providing a firewall, which will fend off most attacks. Second, we are using Filewave to improve the updating process.  Requiring stronger passwords, and a rotation of those passwords every 180 days.  We understand that this can be annoying, but it will make you safer. Third, we are installing some new features to make the network better and safer for you. Finally, we are constantly learning and improving our skills to help make us better able to serve you. However, all we do is not complete with out your help. Remember to be vigilant and when in doubt report it.
